The Devils took two games from division rival Tacoma by scores of 6-1 and 3-2. With the wins, LCC takes to the season series from the Titans 3-2.
Â
In the first game Saturday, the Titans were hanging on to a 1-0 lead through five innings. Gavin Grant's RBI double off
Yancy Bird accounted for all the scoring. Bird was dominant. He allowed five hits with 11 strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings.
Â
Meanwhile Josh Vitus of Tacoma shutout the Devils through six innings. With the offense reeling, LCC exploded for four runs in the 7
th and two more in the 8
th to take the victory.Â
Trevor Paro's two-run single broke the ice and
DeShawn Johnson followed it up with a two run single of his own. LCC added two unearned runs in the 8
th.
Â
Alex Brady got the save with two stellar innings of two-hit relief.
Â
The Devils offense again faltered against Tacoma in the second game. Sam Olsson hit a two-run homer in the first inning off Devil starter
Kaden Vanderwerf. LCC countered with a
Noah Andrews RBI single in the first. Vanderwerf and Tacoma starter Tanner Knapp then proceeded to throw-up a whole lot of goose eggs.
Â
TCC went to the bullpen in the sixth and it opened the door for LCC. Off Dyson Johnson,
GJ Hurst tied up the game with an RBI single in the 7
th.Â
Zach Threlfall then scored the game winner in the seven inning contest when he scored on a throwing error, sending the Devils into a celebration.
Â
Vanderwerf went the distance allowing six hits and two runs against a potent TCC attack.
Â
Andrews, Hurst and Threlfall had two hits each.
Â
By taking three of four games in the series with Tacoma, the Devils go to 10-3 in the West, tied with Pierce for first place. Tacoma drops to 9-3, a half game behind. LCC would have the tiebreaker with Tacoma should it come down to that.
Â
The Devils take on Grays Harbor in a four game set next weekend. LCC hosts the Chokers Saturday April 27
th at 1pm. The teams meet in Aberdeen on Sunday the 28
th.
