Lunt Leads LCC To A Big Sweep Over Centralia

The Lower Columbia softball team enacted revenge from an earlier sweep at the hands of Centralia by coming up with a sweep of their own on Friday April 12th at Kelso's Tam O'Shanter Park.

Lauren Lunt went 7 for 9 with six RBI's in the double header to lead the Devils to wins by scores of 9-6 and 15-10.

In the first game Friday, Lower Columbia pounded Centralia starter Dakota Brooks for nine runs on 12 hits.

Valeti Fifita started things by hitting an RBI single in the first inning.  Saydie Harris then went deep in the third followed by Allie Hall's clutch two-run double to right field.

After a Skylar Hunter RBI single in the 4th, Lunt hit a two-run shot.

Centralia kept coming back but Nizhoni Wheeler got the final outs in a three inning relief stint.  Trinity Naugle got the win after going four innings, allowing three runs.

In order to get the season series split, the Devils needed a win in the nightcap and they came out flying.  LCC scored four in the first and five in the second to take a 9-1 lead. Naugle allowed just one run in the first three innings but tired in the 4th and 5th where the relentless Blazers kept coming back.  Wheeler came in again and worked around three walks and some big Blazer hits to get the save. Wheeler struck out Britzi Hockett to end the game and complete the sweep.

Lunt went 4 for 5 with two doubles and four RBI's.  Harris had a home and two doubles, part of a three hit, three RBI game.  Kami Gray had an outstanding game as she was 4 for 4 with a long home run.

Ellie Conley hit her first college homer and Hunter also went yard.  The Devils banged out 20 hits in the game.

Kinzey Williams had three hits including a triple.  Sarah Potwin had two doubles.

With the sweep, the Devils vault ahead of Centralia into second place in the South Region.  LCC is 10-4 in league and 17-6 overall.  Centralia drops to 8-5 in league.

It's a busy week for the Devils. They will play two non-league games at Corban College in Salem on Tuesday April 16th.  The team will then continue south for a makeup twin bill at Southwestern Oregon in Coos Bay on Wednesday.  LCC is back home for another make-up double header on Thursday April 18th against Chemeketa.  Big Bend comes to Kelso for two non-league games on Saturday April 20th.
