The Lower Columbia College softball team got off the bus red hot. They got back on not so much. The team was swept in Coos Bay on Wednesday April 17
th.
The first game was a complete dud. Southwestern Oregon defeated LCC 11-0 in five innings.
The Lakers opened the game with a two-run homer off Devil starter
Trinity Naugle in the first inning. SWOC added five more in the third taking a 7-0 lead.
Nizhoni Wheeler came on and gave up a grand slam in the 4
th and the Lakers went on to an 11-0 victory.
It was just the second time the Devils had been shutout this season.
The second game also saw Lower Columbia struggle offensively. SWOC scored an early run, but LCC tied it up in the second on a
Lauren Lunt RBI double.
Tied 1-1 in the 5
th,
Sarah Potwin came up with a clutch RBI single after
Valeti Fifita was hit by a pitch and moved over on a Lunt single. All of that came with two outs.
The Lakers then rallied for three runs in the 6
th inning to take back the lead and they went on to the 4-2 victory.
The Devils will have a long bus ride home to think about it, but they will have to flush it quick because they host Chemeketa Thursday at 3 pm. The double header has already been rained out twice.
