Box Score 4 The Lower Columbia College softball team scrambled to play some games and they are sure glad they did.
With the NWAC softball event canceled in snowy, icy Pasco, the Devils decided to host a seven game affair at Tam O'Shanter Park and they came away with four victories.
On Saturday March 2nd, the Devils opened their home slate with a 6-1 victory over Pierce.Â
Trinity Naugle was outstanding in the circle getting the complete game victory. Naugle went seven innings allowing just four hits and one run with seven strikeouts.
Lauren Lunt was the hitting star going 3 for 3 with a home run, two doubles and two RBI's.
Ellie Conley had a two run double.
The second game Saturday was looking like another easy LCC victory until Walla Walla mounted a rally that would get them within one run. The Warriors scored four runs in the sixth, chasing starter
Caitlyn Grogan. Naugle came in to put out the fire, getting the save. Grogan got the victory, a 9-8 LCC win.
Kendell Clauson had an early RBI single to get the offense going. She then slammed a three-run homer to give LCC a 6-1 lead.
Saydie Harris had an RBI single before her first college bomb, a two run shot that gave LCC the 9-2 lead.
As it turned out, they would need all nine of those runs to get the win.
The sun continued on Sunday and so did the potent LCC offense. It wasn't football, but the Devils came away with a 21-7 victory over Pierce.
The Devils blew it open early with 10 runs in the first inning and seven in the second.
Harris continued her onslaught, going 2 for 4 with four RBI's and two runs scored.Â
Sarah Potwin was 2 for 2 with four RBI's.
There were many offensive stars as
Skylar Hunter went 2 for 2 with three RBI's and three runs scored.Â
Aspen Norman came into Hunter's slot in the lineup and there was no dropoff. Norman was 2 for 2 with three RBI's.
Sarah Russell and
Kaylee Strahan also had two RBI's each. The Devils pounded out 16 hits.
Grogan got the win, although she had to exit early after experiencing some arm pain. Naugle got the final four outs to put the mercy rule victory into the books.
The Devils closed out the weekend with a 9-3 victory over Walla Walla. Naugle collected another complete game victory giving up six hits and three runs over seven innings.
It was more Harris as she was 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBI's. Hunter was 2 for 3 with two RBI's. Conley had a two-run double.
Clauson and Potwin also had two hits each.
The Devils go to 5-1-1 on the season. LCC's next action is Friday March 8th when they head for the RAC at Lacey for a pair of games. The Devils play Highline at 3:00 pm followed by action with Shoreline at 5:30 pm.
Saturday's schedule at the RAC shows LCC against Skagit Valley at 4:00 pm followed by a night game with Douglas at 7:00 pm.
