After falling twice to Centralia on Saturday the Lower Columbia softball team responded three days later with a home sweep of long-time NWAC South rival Clackamas, 5-3 and 7-5 on Tuesday March 26.
Â
The Devils were locked in a 0-0 tie with the Cougars after three innings in the opener. Clackamas got on the board first and then LCC took a 3-1 in the bottom half of the 4th, which it would not give up.Â
Lauren Lunt hit an RBI double to highlight the inning.
Â
The Devils then got RBI doubles from
Skylar Hunter and
Saydie Harris in the 5
th to provide the insurance they would need.
Â
Trinity Naugle went the distance to get the victory as she gave up just five hits. The Cougars Kat Hylton hit a homer in the 6
th, but Naugle settled down and completed the victory. Naugle is now 7-2 on the season.
Â
Kami Gray had two doubles and Harris was 2 for 3. Â
Ellie Conley also doubled for LCC, one of six two-baggers for LCC.
Â
The Devils jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second game.
Sarah Potwin hit a two-run homer in the first to kick-start the offense.
Â
Sophia Parsons had the big hit in the game as she slugged a grand slam homer in the third inning.
Â
Clackamas mounted a comeback against Devil starter
Nizhoni Wheeler. Hylton hit a bases loaded double as Clackamas scored four in the 5
th. But Wheeler buckled down and blanked the Cougars in the final two innings. The game ended on a nice running catch by LCC second baseman
Valeti Fifita.
Â
Potwin's RBI single in the 5
th also provided some insurance.
Â
Parsons drove in four with the grand slam. Potwin was 2 for 3 with three RBI. Hunter also went 2 for 4 in the nightcap.
Â
The Devils go to 4-2 in league with the sweep. LCC will travel to Gresham, Oregon to play the Mt. Hood Saints on Friday March 29. The twin bill begins at 3 pm. LCC will be back home on Saturday March 30 when it hosts Clark for two games beginning at 12 pm.
