Game Recap: Softball |

A Saturday To Forget

The Lower Columbia College softball team ran into a Centralia team hitting on all cylinders.

The Blazers swept LCC 8-4 and 8-0 on Saturday March 23rd at Fort Borst Park in Centralia.

The first game was close until the Blazers exploded for four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning highlighted by Dakota Brooks grand slam off LCC reliever Nizhoni Wheeler.  Wheeler came in for starter Trinity Naugle, who went five innings before running into trouble in the fateful sixth. Naugle took the loss.

Brooks went the distance in the circle, scattering 10 Red Devil hits.  Saydie Harris had two hits including a two run homer in the fifth that got Lower Columbia within one run.  Skylar Hunter and Ellie Conley also had two hits each.

The second game got ugly early as Centralia plated five runs in the first inning off Wheeler, who is still in the process of coming off basketball and into full-mode softball.  Wheeler settled down after that until Shelby Levang hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the 4th that triggered an eight run lead and ultimately the mercy-rule ending.

LCC could muster just four hits in the second game.

The term "flush it" was used quite a bit after the tough day in Centralia.  The Devils turn around for the South Region home opener against the Clackamas Cougars on Tuesday March 26th.  The doubleheader begins at 3 pm at Heerensperger Field at Tam O'Shanter Park in Kelso.
