In baseball and in life there are good days and bad days. For both the Lower Columbia Red Devils and the Edmonds Tritons there is no place like home.
The Devils and Tritons split a four game series with each impressive at home.
On Friday March 22
nd, the Devils took two from the Tritons by scores of 12-1 and 10-0. Each game at Story Field were shortened to seven innings due to the 10-run rule.
The Tritons came back to take two home games on Saturday March 23
rd by scores of 3-0 and 6-0.
The series opener Friday saw LCC starter
Mitch Lines dominate. The sophomore right hander went seven innings allowing just two hits with nine strikeouts and one walk. Ben Davis' solo homer in the third was the only run against Lines.
The Devils jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the first inning, highlighted by
Hunter Cook's three-run triple. LCC got to Edmonds starter Wyatt Stanley right out of the chute. The Devils got the chance to end the game early when
Chase Matheny slammed a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Matheny was 2 for 3 with five RBI's. Cook ended up 2 for 3 with three RBI's.
Colin Floyd also had two hits and an RBI.
LCC continued the offensive fireworks in the second game and Floyd was the catalyst. The freshman catcher had three doubles and three RBI's, capping off a 5 for 7 day.
Tommy Davis was 3 for 4 with two RBI's.
Trevor Paro was 2 for 2.
It all backed the pitching of
Justin Solt who went five innings allowing just four hits with nine strikeouts.
Dakota Hawkins came in and provided two innings of relief allowing no hits and no runs.
Following the games on Friday LCC head coach
Eric Lane warned his team that Edmonds was too good to not make the adjustments and come back strong on Saturday.
The coach was right.
Tritons starting pitchers Luke Tedrick and Eric Shinjo dominated on Saturday as they both held the Red Devil bats down.
In the first game Saturday, the Tritons led just 1-0 after 7 1/3 before they plated a pair in the bottom of the 8
th. LCC starter
Yancy Bird was outstanding as he allowed just two hits with eight strikeouts in six frames. Yugo Hamakawa's second inning solo homer was the only blemish in an great outing for Bird.
Kaden Vanderwerf allowed three hits and two runs in his two innings of relief.
Drew Barlow was the only Red Devil to get two hits in the game.
In the second game Saturday, the Tritons chased LCC starter
Eli Shubert with four runs in the third inning.
Meanwhile the Red Devil offense could muster just two singles and doubles by
DeShawn Johnson and
Trenton King.
LCC is 13-5 overall as they get ready to begin league play at home Saturday March 30
th. The Centralia Blazers come to Story Field for a single game at 1 pm.
