The Lower Columbia men's basketball team used a big second half to get the game into overtime, then shocked the Everett Trojans 96-94 on their home floor to advance to the Elite Eight.
Â
Down 46-34 at halftime, the Red Devils rallied to outscore the Trojans 52-40 in the second half. With a chance to ice the game at the free throw line with 24 seconds left, LCC made just one of two free throws and that gave Everett a shot. After a missed shot and a scramble for the loose ball Everett's Jon Parker hit a three at the buzzer to send it into overtime.
Â
Down 94-93 with 11 seconds left,
Martis Johnson drove the length of the floor and scored a lay-in as he was fouled. He hit the free throw to give LCC the lead with nine seconds left. Everett missed a short shot with two seconds left and LCC completed the upset, sending the top seed from the North out of the tournament.
Â
Seth Hall led the Red Devils with 33 points. The sophomore hit 6 of 13 three's and he was not going to be denied. Hall was confident and he played with great fire.
Â
The same could be said for freshman
Samaad Hector. Hector had 30 points and 21 rebounds. Hector was 13 for 20 from the field and he was a terror on the glass with 16 defensive rebounds and five at the offensive end.
Â
Johnson had 18 points including the game winner. Johnson kick started the Devils offense in the second when he came out and hit some big three's.
Â
Alec Canete-Hall had six points and six assists.Â
Devonte Dennis scored four points but it was his defense and tenacity that was a key. Dennis had three assists and six rebounds, none bigger than the one at the end of the game that kept Everett from another chance at a game winner at the buzzer.
