It was a early season four game series with plenty of errors, outstanding pitching and clutch hitting.
The Lower Columbia Red Devils had to use two late game rallies to come away with a four game sweep over the Lane Titans on Friday March 8 and Saturday March 9 at Story Field.
The opener Friday featured a pitching duel between Mitchell Bell of Lane and
Mitch Lines of LCC. Bell threw six shutout innings and Lines gave up just one run in six frames.
Down 1-0 in the 8th, LCC came up with a game tying RBI single by
Shane Jamison and a Lane miscue that allowed the game winner to trot home on the play. LCC wins it 2-1.
Dakota Hawkins got the win in relief with three innings of one-hit ball.
LCC came from behind again the Friday nightcap. Behind 3-2 in the fifth, the Devils rolled a five spot highlighted by
Colin Floyd's three-run double. LCC won the game 8-3.
Justin Solt gave up three runs on three hits in 4 2/3 innings. The sophomore right-hander struck out eight Titans. Kaden Vandewerf got the victory when he provided 2 1/3 innings of hitless, scoreless relief.
It was another close one in the Saturday opener. Tied 3-3 after six innings, LCC got an RBI triple from Floyd and a
Chase Matheny RBi single to beat Lane 5-3. Earlier,
Drew Barlow and
Hunter Cook had RBI single. Barlow was 2 for 3 with two RBI's. Cook had two hits. Floyd was 3 for 4. Matheny had a pair of hits.
Yancy Bird went five innings allowing three hits, two runs and striking out four Titans.Â
DeShawn Johnson got the victory with three scoreless innings.
The final game of the weekend was ugly. The Devils had five errors and the Titans had three of their own. But in the end, it was
Trevor Paro who was the hero. His walkoff single in the bottom of the 7th gave LCC a 9-8 victory. It's the second walkoff basehit of the season for Paro.
Down 7-3, the Devils scored six runs over the final two innings to pull out the win. Floyd had a two-run single. Paro and Johnson drove in runs with base hits to tie up the game. After Lane got to LCC reliever
Alex Brady with a run in the top of the 7th the scene was set for another Devil rally.Â
Hunter Cook tied it up with an RBI single and Paro triggered another post game celebration with his clutch hit.
Brady got the win in relief of starter
Eli Shubert and middle man
Nick Jennings.
Trenton King had two hits with an RBI. Johnson had three hits in the game and Floyd, Paro, Cook and
Noah Andrews all had two hits.
With the sweep, the Devils go to 6-2 on the season. LCC will host Clackamas in a 4:00 pm double header on Tuesday March 12 at Story Field.
