Lower Columbia Women Claim Everett Tournament Title

Story Text / Teaser
Behind 24 points from Madison Mosier and great all-around play from tourney MVP Danica Schmidt and all-tourney pick Madeline Jacobson, the Red Devils beat Southwestern Oregon 79-73 in overtime to win the Everett Tournament on Sunday.

The win capped a 3-0 weekend effort for the Red Devils, including wins over two previously undefeated teams - Big Bend and Clackamas.

On Sunday, Jacobson's layup with 30 seconds left in regulation forced the OT after SWOC had scrambled back from a 10-point deficit to grab the lead late in regulation. Michaela Harris hit a layup early in overtime to put LCC up 67-65 and the Devils never looked back.

Jacobson grabbed 10 boards to go along with 15 points. Schmidt was a terror off the bench with 10 points and 13 rebounds. For the weekend the freshman from Soldotna, AK scored 37 points and had 33 rebounds.

Harris added 12 points and Cherita Daugherty scored nine to go along with four rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Lower Columbia is now 6-3 on the season. The Red Devils will take a few days off for fall quarter final tests, then get back on the court in Albany, OR in 10 days in the Linn Benton crossover. LCC opens with Columbia Basin at 2:00 pm on December 19.

Saturday – Lower Columbia 87, Clackamas 75
Trailing by seven points at halftime, the Red Devils exploded for 53 second-half points to overtake the Cougars. The win provided a measure of revenge for the Red Devils, who had lost at home 60-46 to Clackamas on November 26.

The bench was huge in the win for LCC. Schmidt scored 16 points and had nine boards, Melenaite Kata had her best game as a Red Devil with 15 points and 10 rebounds and Ally Harman chipped in 10 points.

Jacobson had 12 points and six boards. Daugherty covered the stat sheet with 11 points, six assists, four rebounds and a steal and Mosier added 10 points.

Friday – Lower Columbia 73, Big Bend 58
The Red Devils started hot with a 19-7 first quarter lead and then got a nice third-quarter rally to fend off a Big Bend comeback attempt, on the way to the win over the previously undefeated Vikings.

Big Bend scored the first nine points of the third quarter to draw within 47-37, before LCC Coach Lucas Myers called time out. Whatever he said worked as Daugherty drilled a three-pointer thanks to Harman's assist, Jacobsen scored inside off a Daugherty feed, then Schmidt scored after grabbing an offensive rebound. That put LCC up 54-37 and the rout was on.

Harman led LCC's scorers with 13 points. Mosier and Jacobson each had 12 points and Daugherty once again filled the box score – 10 points, nine rebounds, eight assists, three steals and one blocked shot. Schmidt grabbed 11 rebounds to go along with eight points.
