Yaks Rally To Beat Devils At Holiday Classic

The Lower Columbia College women's basketball team closed out the pre-league season with a painful home loss to the Yakima Valley Yaks.

Up 41-37 at the half and with leads in double figures in the second half, the Devils couldn't close the deal as Yakima Valley took advantage of LCC defensive lapses to take an 87-84 victory on the final day of the Lower Columbia Holiday Classic.

Jenni Johnson had a huge game for the Yaks as she scored a game high 27 points.

Madison Mosier led the Devils scoring with 23 points.

Freshman post Jodi Noyes had a breakout weekend at the tournament. On Sunday she scored 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.  Noyes was named to the Holiday Classic All-Tournament team.

Cherita Daugherty also had a double-double with 13 points and 10 assists.

Michaela Harris had 10.

The Devils finish a tough pre-league schedule with a 9-6 record. The Devils will open up West Region play Wednesday January 8th at home against the Centralia Trailblazers. Game time is at 6 pm.

Umpqua captured the Holiday Classic title with a 70-65 victory over division foe Mt. Hood.  Grace Campbell of the Riverhawks was named the tournament MVP.  Also Sunday, it was Whatcom defeating Centralia 83-68.
