Led by the dominating 24-point, 15-rebound night for sophomore center
Samaad Hector, Lower Columbia beat a good Walla Walla team 86-77 on Wednesday in the opening game of the NWAC's Clackamas Crossover in Oregon City.
The win improves the Red Devils season mark to 11-1 going into Thursday's game versus the host Clackamas, at 5:00 p.m.
Hector connected on 10 of 14 attempts from the field as the Red Devils shot 50.7 percent as a team.
After leading 44-38 at the break, LCC ran off a 9-2 spurt to open the second half.
Cody Young drained a 3-pointer to start the Red Devil run,
Martis Johnson hit a pair of free throws,
Alexis Angeles scored after a Hector block started a fast break and then Johnson buried a 3-pointer off Young's assist.
That made it 55-40 Lower Columbia and the Warriors got no closer than a seven-point deficit.
Johnson finished with 19 points, Angeles added 17 and Young chipped in nine points and three assists.
Travis Patrick scored seven off the Devils bench.
Walla Walla, now 4-3 on the season, was led by the 21 points of Gabe Gallegos and 20 from Jake Poulton. The Warriors are coached by former Kelso HS coach Jeff Reinland.
Lower Columbia will complete play in Oregon City on Friday, when it meets Southwestern Oregon at 11:00 a.m.
