The Clackamas women's basketball team was fashionably late for its NWAC road game at Lower Columbia on Tuesday November 26th.
Stuck in pre-Thanksgiving I-205 traffic, the Cougars didn't arrive until a half hour prior to the tip-off at Myklebust Gym in Longview. It didn't matter as the Red Devils looked like to team that was taken out of its routine as Clackamas came out with a 15-2 lead after the first quarter.
LCC missed 12 of its first 13 shots (7%) and the talented Cougars were able to take the lead they would hold on to the rest of the game. The teams played to a standstill the rest of the way but Clackamas came out on top 60-46.
Both teams struggled with poor shooting and too many turnovers. Clackamas shot 33% for the game. LCC shot just 30 %. The Red Devils had 23 turnovers while the Cougars had 19 miscues. Perhaps the minds were on family and turkey.
Down 30-17 at the half, the Devils made a rally to get within five points. But the Clackamas team responded and bumped the lead to 20 early in the 4th quarter.
Ambreece Gaskins came off the bench for Clackamas with 20 points including five made three's.
Madison Mosier led LCC with 11 points.
Cherita Daugherty had six points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals.
Ally Harman,
Josie Schmitz and
Melenaite Kata had six points each.
After back-to-back home losses to NWAC powers Walla Walla and Clackamas, the 3-3 Devils will take some time out for the Thanksgiving holiday. LCC will next play Friday December 6th in a 2 pm game with Big Bend at the Everett Tournament.
