Centralia had hoped that they could play spoiler to Lower Columbia's plans on Friday, November 8, with an upset win, but the Red Devils never lost focus and headed home with a 3-1 win over the Trailblazers.
The Devils started strong on Friday night jumping out to 13-5 lead in the first set scoring nine unanswered points and eventually taking the first set 25-15 over the Blazers. Centralia was not going to go down that easy though, coming back in the second set to shock the Devils with a 25-21. After dropping the set, the Red Devils tightened things up and came out ready to show what they can do. Set three started with the Devils getting out to a quick 12-5 lead and never looking back. LCC finished the third and fourth sets with a 25-15 win.
Lower Columbia out hit Centralia .310 to .102 with only 12 errors to the Trailblazers 30. The Red Devils were lead by Sophomores
Desarae Reab,
Paige Moorcroft, and
Ashlynn Cantwell with 11, 9, and 8 kills respectively. Moorcroft also had 6 blocks on night and 3 Ace serves.
Karsyn Zaragoza put up 19 assists and had 3 ace serves of her own.
The win put the Devils at 8-3 in West Region play and solidly in third place behind the Highline Thunderbirds (8-2). Lower Columbia and Highline meet up for the Devils last match of the season on Wednesday, November 13, in Longview, WA at 7:00 pm. Both Highline and Lower Columbia have clinched their spot in the NWAC Tournament but, Wednesday nights game will decide the seeding for both teams.
