Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Devils Finally Crack The Lane Code, Upset the Titans

The last time the Lower Columbia College women's basketball team beat Lane it was late December 1996.  Lisa Kihl was the Red Devil coach and Lower Columbia won 82-49.

22 years later, the Devils finally got it done, snapping a 10 game losing streak to Lane with a 78-71 victory over the Titans on Saturday December 1st.

Kenya Lorton and Shasta Lofgren logged all 40 minutes and both were outstanding.

Lorton scored 22 points, pulled down 11 rebounds and dished out four assists to lead the LCC attack.  Lofgren had 20 points and six assists.

LCC had a 16 point lead at one point in the third quarter and they would need all of that advantage as the talented Lane team rallied to get within two late in the game.  But LCC stayed calm and got the job done, defeating a Greg Sheley coached team for the first time ever.

Sheley has built a perennially contending team in the NWAC and he has had his way against LCC teams coached by Jason Hoseney and Chad Meadors.  First year Red Devil coach Lucas Myers did a masterful job getting his team ready to play and he came away with a huge victory for his Red Devils.

Emily Packham was solid for LCC scoring 12 points, including 3 for 4 from beyond the arc.

Nizhoni Wheeler had nine points and eight rebounds.  Madison Mosier logged 33 minutes and contributed seven points and three assists.

Melenaite Kata had five big points for LCC.

The Devils go to 2-4 on the season as they get ready to travel to Everett for the Everett tournament December 7-9. LCC will take on Skagit Valley Friday December 7th at 4 pm.

By the way, Kihl was 3-0 against Lane back in 1994 through 1997.

There is now another LCC head coach who has a 1000 winning percentage against Lane.  Coach Myers finally cracked the Sheley Code.
