The Lower Columbia women's basketball team bounced back from a tough semi-final loss to Spokane to beat Linn Benton 69-64 in the third place game at the Everett Classic on Sunday December 9th.
Shasta Lofgren capped off a great three day personal run with 16 points and 12 rebounds against Linn Benton. Lofgren was named to the Everett Classic All-Tournament team with her outstanding play.
Emily Packham led the Devils in scoring with 18 points on Sunday.
Kenya Lorton had 13 points, five rebounds and three assists. Her two free throws with :13 seconds left clinched the victory.
Down five at halftime, the Devils outscored the Road Runners 25-15 in the third quarter.
Nizhoni Wheeler came off the bench and scored seven points and her two blocks in the waning moments were key to the victory.
The tournament started Friday December 7th as LCC defeated Skagit Valley 68-63. LCC finished strong, outscoring the Cardinals 18-11 in the 4th quarter.
Lofgren had a game-high 22 points against the Cards. She also had 10 rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Lorton hit 5 of 10 long range shots and scored 16 points. Packham added 10 points.
A brutal second quarter was the eventual undoing for the Devils in the 64-49 loss to Spokane on Saturday December 8th.
The Sasquatch, who eventually won the tournament, outscored LCC 17-3 in the fateful second quarter.
The Devils didn't quit however and they came back to outscore Bigfoot 19-13 in the final frame.
Lorton led the Devils with 15 points and nine rebounds. Packham had eight points and seven boards.
Lower Columbia is 4-5 on the season after a 0-4 start. The Devils will host an NWAC Cross Over tournament Friday-Sunday December 14-16.
The Devils will take on Portland Friday at 8 pm. LCC will take on Big Bend Saturday at 7 pm, then will close it out with Peninsula on Sunday at 2 pm.
