The Lower Columbia women's basketball team rallied from 16 points down to take a late lead, but the talented Big Bend Vikings got a game winning free throw with five seconds left to beat the Red Devils 76-75.
Shasta Lofgren got a great look from 17 feet for the win but the shot bounced off the rim.
The Devils were in danger of getting blown out of their own gym in the NWAC Crossover when they went down by 16 in the third quarter. But fueled by a big night from
Kenya Lorton, LCC got back in the game and had a great chance to win it.
Lorton played all 40 minutes and ended up with 29 points and nine rebounds.
Four Devils had to log the entire game. Lofgren had 16 points and 10 rebounds.Â
Emily Packham and
Madison Mosier also went 40 minutes.
Nizhoni Wheeler was saddled with foul trouble but she still had 14 points. Melanaite Kata did a good job with three points and five boards.
Leah Dougherty missed the first, but hit the second free throw for the winning margin. Miranda Johnson led the Vikings with 20 points.
The never-say-die Devils will be looking to exact some revenge with Peninsula when they play the Pirates Sunday at 2 pm. Peninsula defeated Portland 69-57 in the first game Saturday. The Peninsula team defeated LCC 65-62 back on November 20th.
Big Bend will play Portland at 12 pm on Sunday.
