Devils Beach The Orcas, Play For Holiday Classic Title

Kenya Lorton scored 26 points to lead five Red Devils in double figures in an 88-80 victory over Whatcom in the semi-finals of the 2018 Lower Columbia Holiday Classic.

LCC withstood a furious Orcas rally to get the victory sending them to the title game against North Idaho at 3 pm Saturday December 29th.

The Devils came out blazing shooting 58 percent in the first quarter, taking a 25-9 lead.  But the talented Orcas came right back to trim a 16 point deficit down to eight at halftime.

The Devils righted the ship and outscored Whatcom 30-20 in the third quarter.  The Orcas would get no closer than seven and the Devils closed it out in a foul infested 4th period.

LCC withstood the Orcas rally while dealing with severe foul trouble. Shasta Lofgren and Emily Packham had to sit considerable minutes in the final two quarters.  Lorton and Madison Mosier did a great job dealing with the pressure.

Mosier had 12 points, five rebounds and five assists. Her bucket late in the 4th was key to holding off the Orcas.

Packham had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.  Nizhoni Wheeler had an outstanding game with 18 points and six boards.

Madeline Jacobson had another solid outing with 10 points and four rebounds.

The Devils will take on North Idaho for the tourney title.  The Cardinals defeated Yakima Valley 70-63 in the other semi-final.
