Nizhoni Wheeler is very familiar with the Peninsula College Gymnasium. It took her Lower Columbia teammates two quarters to get accustomed to the facility.
Wheeler scored 14 points in a return to her hometown of Port Angeles, leading the Red Devils to a 76-67 victory over the Peninsula Pirates on Friday January 5
th. Wheeler, who leads the NWAC in FG percentage, hit 7 of 11 shots.
Down 33-24 at the half, the Devils went on a 13-0 run to take a lead they would hold the rest of the way.
Cherita Daugherty led the fateful run with eight points in the quarter and 12 for the game. Daugherty also had 10 rebounds to lead the Devils on the boards.
The LCC energy got amped up in the second half as the Red Devils outscored the Pirates 52-34 in the final two quarters, sparked by much better defense that led the several easy baskets.
Tywanna Abbott had 14 points to help the cause.
Hayley Niles scored all of her 10 points in the second half.

Kenya Lorton scored 8 and
Madison Crews hit two three's for six points.
Former Red Devil volleyball player Jocelyn Moore had four points and 11 rebounds for the Pirates.
LCC closes out the non-league schedule with a 10-6 record. The Devils open up West Region play Wednesday January 10 at Green River. Tip time is 6 pm in Auburn.
