Spencer Sweet was hot from the outside and Brandon Cotton did a bunch of everything as the Lower Columbia men opened up Western Region play with an 83-65 victory at Green River on Wednesday January 10th.

Sweet made seven of his 12 three-point attempts and paced the scoring with 25 points.  The Devils shot 52 percent from the floor and 50 percent from long distance.

Brandon Cotton was a rebound and two assists shy of a triple-double.  The sophomore point guard scored 13 points, pulled nine rebounds and collected seven assists.

LCC jumped out to a 37-22 lead at halftime, then withstood a Gator rally that cut the lead to five at the 10:54 mark. The Devils then coasted down the stretch after Wesley Gilbert dunked after a timeout. Gilbert had 10 points and five rebounds for LCC.

Speaking of dunks, Bricin Ford had two of them, one in the monster category.  Ford ended up with 10 points and three blocked shots.

Donald Scott had eight points and 11 rebounds off the LCC bench.

It was the first West victory for first-year Red Devil head coach Mickey Polis, who saw his team go to 9-6 on the season.

The Devils have another road contest on Saturday January 13th when they take on the Trail Blazers at Centralia College at 7 pm.  The game can be heard live on AM 1490 KLOG in the Longview-Kelso area and worldwide on klog.com.

The LCC men's league home opener is Wednesday January 17th, an 8 pm start against the Pierce Raiders.  It's Red Canoe Credit Union Night. RDCU members get free admission by showing their Red Canoe debit or credit cards.  There will be special giveaways and games during the women's-men's double header which begins at 6 pm.
