Last year the Lower Columbia women's basketball team had a share of the West Region title. This year it's their's alone.
The Devils closed out the regular season with a 69-58 road victory at South Puget Sound. As it turns out with Centralia's loss to Grays Harbor, the Devils didn't need to win to capture the division by themselves. But they went into the game to earn it on their own.
Tywanna Abbott led a balanced scoring attack with 14 points.Â
Madison Hinrichs had 10 points, five rebounds, five assists and seven steals. She spearheaded a Red Devil press which forced the Clippers into 31 turnovers.
Carissa Cannon also had 10 points for LCC.
Savannah McGill closed out her stellar two-year career with 34 points and 18 rebounds for South Puget Sound.
LCC finished the regular season with a 13-1 league mark and 26-3 overall record. The Devils are the #1 seed from the West and will wait for the NWAC Selection Show on Sunday to see which #4 seed they will play in the NWAC Sweet 16 tournament in Everett. The tournament begins Saturday March 11th.
The NWAC Selection Show begins Sunday March 5th at 2:00 pm on You Tube. You can access the program on the NWAC Website at nwacsports.org.
The Red Devils win the West for the third consecutive season.
