Faye Chartraw of the Lower Columbia women's basketball team showed incredible strength in the Red Devils 62-52 victory over Tacoma on Saturday February 11th.
The Red Devil sophomore received the news that her mother Crystal passed away on Thursday. The news hit the Red Devil family awfully hard as they prepared to host Tacoma trying to avenge the Devils lone league loss. Crystal was a fixture behind the LCC bench as she cheered on her daughter and her teammates.
Despite the sorrowful circumstances, Chartraw played great in front a large section of family members and Neah Bay area tribal members there to support her. Chartraw had nine points and eight rebounds and was truly an inspiration to her team. There was a moment of silence prior to the game to remember Crystal.
The Devils jumped on the Titans, outscoring them 21-12 in the first quarter. LCC had a 17-point lead early in the third quarter and they never allowed the Titans back into the game.
Madison Hinrichs had 14 points and six rebounds for the Devils.Â
Madison Lord had 14 points and eight rebounds.Â
Tywanna Abbott was also solid with nine points.Â
Kaitlin Lewis also had five points, four boards and three assists.
The Devils go to 8-1 and remain tied with Centralia for the top spot in the West. The Devils are 21-3 as they get ready to host Green River Wednesday February 15th at 6 pm. It's Red Canoe Credit Union Night. The game can be viewed live on Devil Vision via You Tube. Just search You Tuber with LCC Red Devil Athletics.
