After two rough outings at the Wenatchee Cross Over, the Red Devils ended the trip with a blowout win over Whatcom in what could turn out to be a turning point for the season.
The three day event began with a game against the host team the Wenatchee Valley Knights on Friday December 15th. Down four at halftime, the Red Devils collapsed in the second half and were outscored 47-33. WVC won the game 84-66.
Spencer Sweet led the way with 23 points.Â
Brandon Cotton scored 15.Â
Devonte Dennis had eight points and
Donald Scott added six points and six rebounds.
The Devils met after the game and did some soul searching with honest communication.
On Saturday December 16th, a close game got away from LCC down the stretch as Linn Benton came away with a 92-82 victory in a game that featured 54 fouls.
Down by two with just over three minutes to play, a questionable foul call on
Wesley Gilbert allowed things to get away quickly. Gilbert received a technical foul when he slapped the baseline padding. Later head coach
Mickey Polis received his first tech as a head coach followed by a "T' on assistant
Allan Brown.
Cotton led the Devils with 22 points and five assists. Sweet scored 15 and Scott had 12 points and five boards.Â
Kyle Daugherty and
Bricin Ford had 10 points each.
Sunday Polis shook up the starting lineup to continue looking for the right combination to start the game. He found it with Ford, Dennis and
Ryan Taylor. LCC got off to a strong start and led start to finish in an 89-64 victory over Whatcom, snapping LCC's four game losing streak.
Ford had a break out game as he was 8 for 10 from the floor, scoring 18 points.
Cotton hit all 10 of his free throw attempts and scored 24 to lead the Devils.
The lineup change also improved the bench production as
Dwayne Stewart had 12 points and six boards and
Said Ali scored 10.
Polis was thrilled with the effort and the team spirit after the team meeting Friday night. He sends his team off to the Christmas break with hopes the squad will continue to grow as one.
The 6-6 Devils return to action with a home game against Clark on Saturday December 30th. The start time is 6 pm, following the final day action at the LCC Women's Holiday Classic.Â
