The Lower Columbia College women's basketball team opened up the season by winning two of three games at the Cardinal Classic at North Idaho College in Couer d'Alene.
The Devils first game was a sizzling display of shooting as they blitz the University of British Columbia-Okanogan 96-63 on Friday November 17th.
Kenya Lorton opened her college career with 27 points. The freshman from Adna was 10 for 14 from the floor including 4-5 beyond the three point line. Lorton also had seven rebounds.
Nizhoni Wheeler also had a college debut to remember. The freshman from Port Angeles was 7-8 from the floor including 3-3 from beyond the arc. Wheeler had 21 points and six rebounds.
Shanay Dotson had 20 points and
Hayley Niles had 11 points and eight rebounds.
Saturday, the Devils suffered through a difficult second half and lost to Bellevue 69-61.
Leading 28-25 at the half, the Red Devils went cold and the Bulldogs rallied to take the win.
Tywanna Abbott and
Madison Crews led the way with 16 points each. Crews also collected five assists.
Wheeler had 11 points and Niles scored nine and collected 10 boards.
The Devils made it a winning trip as they beat Southwestern Oregon 92-84 on Sunday November 19th. LCC was down 46-42 at the half but turned it one in the second half to win going away.
Crews had 23 points, five rebounds and six assists against SWOC.
Dotson scored 22 and Wheeler had 16 points and eight rebounds. Wheeler was 8-9 from the floor. Abbott had 16 points and seven rebounds. Niles added 10 points.
The Devils return to action on Tuesday November 28th when they take on Linn Benton in the home opener. Tip time is 6 pm.
