Box Score It was a match that lived up to its billing.
The Lower Columbia College Red Devils and Pierce Raiders went toe-to-toe on Friday October 6th, with each team battling back and forth before an intense fifth and deciding set.
The Devils got it done.
LCC defeated Pierce 3-2 to even up first place atop the West. Both team are 5-1 in league play.
The Devils jumped out to a 2-0 lead with set wins 25-22 and 25-12. But the Raiders collected themselves at the intermission and came back to win the next two 18-25 and 17-25.
That set up a tremendous fifth set where both teams scratched and clawed. LCC was down 10-7 in the set, but came back and won it 17-15.
Megan Miller and
Nina Bailey led the way at the net. Miller had a match-high 20 kills and added 10 digs. Bailey had 18 kills with a kill percentage of .429.
Macey Wright was outstanding as the Devil setter, collecting 34 assists, nine digs and three aces.
Khloe Clark had 34 digs from the Libero position.
Lower Columbia was coming off a disappointing road loss to Highline where they let a 2-0 lead slip away.
This time they would not be denied.
LCC and Pierce are now tied for the top spot in the West with 5-1 records. The Devils are 16-6 overall.
LC is back on the home court Wednesday October 11th when they host Green River at 7 pm.
