Devils Upset #1 Umpqua To Capture Holiday Classic

A furious 4th quarter of defense allowed the LCC women's basketball team to get back into the game, then stun top ranked Umpqua 72-69 in the championship game of the 2016 Lower Columbia Holiday Classic on Friday December 30th.

Down six at the start of the 4th quarter, the Devils pressured the talented Riverhawks and outscored them 17-8 to pull out the win.  LCC's relentless pressure forced Umpqua into 25 turnovers, while the Devils had just 12.  LCC needed stops as Umpqua outrebounded the Devils 55-37.

Tournament MVP Madison Hinrichs led the way with 15 points, six rebounds, six assists and six steals.

Keahi-lele Roy had a huge game against Umpqua with 14 points and five rebounds.  Roy hit three big three-pointers which ignited the Devils offense.  Roy's heroics earned her an all-tournament selection.

Madison Lord was also named all-tourney. She had nine points and three boards against the tall and talented Riverhawks.  Kaitlin Lewis had nine points. Carissa Cannon and Faye Chartraw had seven each.

Jordan Stotler had 14 points and 14 rebounds for Umpqua.  Tasia Bilbrew had had 16 and Bria Thames with 15.

It's the second tournament win for the Devils after they won the Everett Classic earlier in December.  The Devils have won five straight and will have a final tuneup before league when they host the LCC Alumni team Saturday January 7th at 4 pm.

LCC is 12-2 on the season and showed huge promise with back-to-back wins over North Idaho and Umpqua.
