The Lower Columbia College women's basketball team won it's 8th West Region championship by defeating South Puget Sound 79-55 on Saturday February 27th.
The Devils closed the regular season with a 13-1 league mark and 21-9 overall. LCC shared the West Division crown with Centralia, but the Devisl will be the top seed heading into the NWAC Sweet 16 Regional Round.
The Devils honored the three soon-to-be-departing sophomores prior to the game, then proceeded to take all the suspence out of the evening. The Devils outscored the Clippers 24-2 in the second quarter and had a 49-15 lead at halftime.
Making a huge contribution in that first half was
Olivia Doerr,Â
Alexis Turner and
Keahi-lele Roy. Doerr scored a college career high seven points. Roy finished with eight points and Turner had 10 points and four assists.
The honored sophomores were very good.
Katie Hankins had 14 points and 11 rebounds. Nesia Selava hit four three's and scored 12 points.
Katerina Brejchova had four points, eight boards and five assists.
Samantha Boyce scored 11 points with seven rebounds.
The LCC defense foreced the Clippers into 23 turnovers which turned into 24 Red Devil points.
The Devils now turn their attention to the post season where they will host a round-of-16 Region playoff this Saturday afternoon at 3 pm. LCC will play the winner of Monday night's tiebreaker game between Clark and Chemeketa in Salem.
Advanced ticket sales are underway at the LCC Student Center main office just off 15th avenue. Booster Passes will not be accepted as the event is an official NWAC tournament event. Make sure you have your seats by purchasing your tickets in advance.
