The Lower Columbia women's basketball team opened the Lower Columbia Holiday Classic with an agressive, attacking defense that led to a 64-38 victory over Mt. Hood on Wednesday December 28th.
The Devils came out with energy following the Christmas break, jumping to a 23-5 lead after one quarter. For the game, the Devils defense forced 25 Saints turnovers.
Madison Lord led the way with 12 points and eight rebounds, but there was plenty of help and all available Red Devil players logged at least nine minutes of action.
Tywanna Abbott had a good game with 12 points on 6-for-9 shooting and two steals.
Madison Hinrichs had 11 points and four boards.Â
Carissa Cannon had eight points.
The only negative was the Devils poor performance at the free throw line as they were just 8 for 19 (42%).
The Devils take on the North Idaho Cardinals in the LC Holiday Classic semi-finals at 6 pm Thursday December 29th. You can watch the game live on Devil Vision. North Idaho avoided an upset by rallying to beat Highline 63-62.
A group of former Devils and other former college stars also took part and dropped a 76-64 game to Yakima Valley. Sequoia Swan of the Yaks scored 35 points. Former Red Devil Lacey Seidl led the Dragons with 26 points. former Devi star and OSU player
Mollee Schwegler-Strand added 14 points. The Dragons take on Centralia at 12 pm on Thursday in a loser out game.
Also, Umpqua cruised to a 94-57 win over Centralia.
