The Devils turned a league opening blowout into a league opening nail biter on Saturday January 9th.
Leading by 22 points with eight minutes left in the game, the Devils let their guard down and allowed Pierce a game winning shot at the buzzer. The shot was no good and the Devils escaped with a 72-70 win in Lakewood.
The Raiders Michael Hannan had a good look at a 28 footer but it missed, allowing the Devils to go 1-0 in the West Region.
LCC played very well until they backed off down the stretch.Â
Keun Palu-Thompson, playing in his hometown of Tacoma, led LCC with 18 points and seven rebounds.
Nate Solomon came off the bench and provided some long distance firepower with 15 points. Solomon was 4 for 8 from three-point range.
Lawrence Russell had 11 points, seven rebounds and 10 assists falling just three caroms short of a triple-double.
Devin Johnson added 11 points to the Devil total.
LCC kept care of the ball for the most part with 11 turnovers.
LCC takes on Tacoma in the home league opener on Wednesday January 13th. The tip off is set for 8 pm at Myklebust Gym.
The game will be streamed live on the LCC Athletics You Tube channel and the video will be produced by Tofer Vision for the first time this season. The game is the NWAC Video Game of the Week and can also be accessed off the NWAC Sports website.
