The Red Devils hope to make a cherished memory on Memorial Day.
The Lower Columbia College baseball team will play for the NWAC title on Monday after an 8-1 victory over Edmonds on Sunday May 24th.
Alex Torson went eight innings to get the victory, scattering eight hits and allowing no earned runs. Torson walked just one and worked around jams with clutch pitching. Ryan Peart came on in the ninth and capped off the afternoon with a scoreless frame.
The Devils scored three runs in the second inning to take control and then seized the moment with four runs in the 8th.
Tanner Marty was 3 for 5 with an RBI. Ryan Engquist had a big game going 2 for 4 with 3 RBI's. Ryan Littlefield had two hits and scored two runs. The Devils also got RBI's from Seaver Whalen, Chris Rogers and Conner Switzer.
The only bummer of the game was the shoulder injury to Michael Forgione. He jammed his shoulder diving back into first base. He will have further examination to get a feel for the severity of the injury.
The Red Devils will have two chances to win LCC's 11th title. Lower Columbia will play Mt. Hood at 12:05 pm at Story Field. If LCC wins, they take the crown. If the Saints win, then the teams would turn around and play again at approximately 3:30 pm for the championship. Lower Columbia was afforded that luxury by getting through Sunday as the tournament's lone undefeated team.
The defending champion Tritons showed well again, taking third place. Earlier, Mt. Hood advanced with an 8-3 win over Tacoma.
The gates to Story Field open up at 10:30 am on Monday. Fans are encouraged to come out and support the Red Devils as they try and add to the legacy and give second year head coach Eddie Smith his first title at the helm of LCC Baseball.
