The Lower Columbia College baseball team will play in the NWAC Championship game on Monday after taking a 6-4, 12 inning thriller over Tacoma on Saturday May 23rd.
Joel Worden was superb in relief, going 6 1/3 innings and allowing just three basehits and striking out eight. Worden came on for starter Jeremy Rabauliman, who gave up three runs in 5 2/3 innings.
Tacoma and LCC went back and forth, and the game wasn't decided until LCC plated two runs in the top of the 12th and then Worden shut the door.
Lorin Archibald had two hits and an RBI. Playing with a fractured cheekbone, Ryan Littlefield had a hit and an RBI. Littlefield started the winning rally with a single to center. An error by the Tacoma shortstop scored the go-ahead run and then LCC added a final tally on a Ryan Engquist suicide squeeze RBI.
Seaver Whalen scored three runs for LCC.
The Devils go 3-0 in the NWAC Championships and will take on Edmonds Sunday afternoon at 5:05 pm. If LCC wins, they would then have two chances to take the title on Monday begining at 12:05 pm. If LCC loses Sunday, they will still play for the title at 3:35 pm Monday.
Tacoma will try and stay alive Sunday at 1:05 pm against Mt. Hood.
