DEVILS SEASON ENDS AT NWAACC CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Lower Columbia College Red Devils had plenty of chances, but the breaks didn't fall their way at the 2014 NWAACC basketball championships.
The Devils were making their NWAACC-record 36th appearance at the tourney, more than any other team in conference history. A hearbreaking loss to eventual champion Portland was followed by a loss to Big Bend.
In the 56-54 loss to Portland on Saturday March 1st, LCC had four chances to score the game-tying or game-winning shot in the final seconds.
Sherif Taha had 13 points and nine rebound to lead the way.
Michael Dupree had 10 points.
LCC was eliminated Sunday March 2nd when Big Bend won 84-69. Former Red Devil guard Victor Aguero had 21 points to lead the Vikings. LCC was led by
Cameron Howell's 13 points.
Jeremy Burright had 11 points.
The losses mean the end of the LCC careers of
Mana Niu,
Christian Parrott and
Wayne Tucker.
The Devils end up with victories over both teams in the NWAACC title game Portland and Pierce.
After an 0-3 start in league and a poor overall record, the Devils never stopped the quest to get better and head coach
Jim Roffler led the team to another NWAACC appearance.
