After a disapointing performance in the tournament opener, the Red Devil women's basketball team bounced back and won two straight games at the Everett Classic December 12-14.
The Red Devils are ranked #7 in the first NWAC poll released by the conference office.
At Everett, the Devils were blitzed 88-66 by a hot-shooting Bellevue Bulldogs team. The Bulldogs scored 29 points off 22 Red Devil turnovers and they shot 49% from the floor including 5 of 12 three pointers.
Kaylea Knox had 16 points to lead the Devils and Katie Hankins scored a college career-high 14. Sierra Richards had 10 points and seven rebounds.
The Devils bounced back on Saturday with a 91-43 victory over Edmonds. It was a balanced LCC attack led by the 16 points of Amanda Britt. The sophomore from West Covina, California hit four of six shots from long range. Kaitlyn Lewis had 14 points, six rebounds and three assists. Sierra Richards added 12 points and 12 rebounds. Tamar Rodrigues had 10 points and three assists.
Sunday in the consolation championship game, the Red Devils held Olympic to just 10 points in the first half and went on to a 60-37 victory.
Richards had 13 points and seven rebounds. Knox had 13 points, five boards and four assists. Katerina Brejchova had eight points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
The Devils are now 4-3 on the season and will host top ranked Umpqua in a 3 pm showdown Wednesday December 17th. The game will be played at the Mark Morris HS Gymnasium. A reminder to Red Devil fans that Mark Morris HS will be hosting a boys JV/Varsity double header following the LCC/Umpqua matchup. MM will be handling the gate for all three games and your admission to the college game will also be good for the high school action. LCC Booster Club members will get in free by showing your card. LCC staff and students will need to bring thier ID cards for admission.
