The Lower Columbia women's basketball team gave the top ranked NWAC team all they could handle on Wednesday December 17th.
But the Umpqua Riverhawks were able to hold off the Devils and grab an 81-79 victory at the Mark Morris Gym.
LCC didn't particually shoot very well and gave up way too many Umpqua offensive boards, but still they were right there most of the afternoon. There were 12 ties and 12 lead changes in the game.
"We are not into moral victories", according to LCC head coach Chad Meadors. "But I was pleased with our effort despite the fact we missed a lot of good shots. We can use the loss moving forward."
Returning after missing three games due to injury, Donniesha Webber scored 17 points to lead LCC. Amanda Britt scored 15 off the bench. Sierra Richards had eight points and 10 rebounds.
The Devils shot 33% from the floor and just 28% from beyond the arc. Umpqua outrebounded LCC 57-41.
The Devils will open play at the Mt. Hood Cross Over on Friday December 19th in Gresham. LCC will take on Bellevue in a 4 pm game. The tourney goes through Sunday December 21st.
