Box Score The Lower Columbia volleyball team honored three departing sophomores on a night Tacoma closed out the regular season with a victory over the Devils.
Tacoma won the match 25-19, 25-18 and 25-14. The Titans will be heading the the NWAC Championships as the West Region champions.
The loss was typical of many matches for the Devils this season, slow starts in sets that made it tough to come all the way back. The Devils battled but the potent Titans attack was too much in the end.
The loss aside, the Devils showered sophomores Bailey McKee, Amanda Schwegler and Shaina Gustafson with gift bags, commerative pictures, gifts from the ASLCC and plenty of hugs and thanks for being outstanding student/athletes.
Schwegler had 7 kills against Tacoma while Gustafson had 13 digs. madison SAtuder also had 7 kills and Kayla Keane provided 22 assists.
McKee went from a seldom used reserve to a key performer on the back line this season. Schwegler opted to return for an additional season and played hard through injury. Gustafson was the heart and soul of the team with relentless desire and talent from the Libero position.
All three were thanked for a positive attitude while Myklebust Gym was being renovated. They never got play on their home court.
It certainly was a disapointing overall season with a record of 10-27, but the future remains bright for head coach Carri Smith and the program. She continues to work hard on the recruiting trail to bring in dynamic players who can compliment the freshman class who will be much more battled tested next season.
On the home court.
