Kirc Roland was named the Athletic Director at Lower Columbia College in 2001. On his watch Red Devil teams have won 17 NWAC titles – six in softball, seven in baseball, two in men’s basketball, one in women's basketball, one in volleyball – and countless division titles. Just as importantly, Kirc has overseen the inclusion of mandatory study tables for freshmen student-athletes, improved conditioning programs and development of a sports marketing plan that includes the outstanding Red Devil Athletics website.
He is currently the Chair of the NWAC Baseball Committee and was honored by his peers in the conference with the Dutch Triebwasser Award in 2005 and 2019 - given to the NWAC's outstanding athletic administrator each year.
Lower Columbia under Roland's leadership has won the NWAC Athletic Director's Cup in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2023. LCC also won the NWAC President's Cup for academic excellence in 2019.
Kirc is a Longview native. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Telecommunications & Film, Broadcast Journalism at San Diego State in 1980, where he was voted 1979 SDSU Sports Broadcaster of Year. He began his college studies at Western Washington University. He is a 1975 graduate of Longview’s Mark Morris High School where he played basketball and baseball. Roland was inducted into the Mark Morris Hall of Fame in 2015.
He is also the News and Sports Director at KLOG Radio in Kelso, a position he has held since 1980. He is recognized as the play-by-play voice of Kelso Hilander sports and was the regular “voice” of Red Devil athletics for many years. Today Kirc is one member of the Red Devil broadcast team, so his voice is still often on the air covering a LCC sporting event.
As a broadcaster Kirc has followed Longview and Kelso high school and youth teams across the state and country. He helped form the Longview World Series Committee that brought the Bambino World Series (now Cal Ripken) to Longview in 1990. Since that time Kirc has overseen six more Babe Ruth World Series in Longview, the most recent in 2018. He has also given hours to community causes as a fund raiser, friend raiser, auctioneer and announcer – including organizations like the St. John Foundation, CASA, the LCC Foundation and others.
He is a member of Southern Washington Babe Ruth Hall of Fame, the Pacific Northwest Babe Ruth Hall of Fame and received the Washington Football Coaches Silver Helmet Award, the Washington State Baseball Coaches Association Jim Reding Media Award and the Longview Chamber of Commerce White Hat Award.
Kirc has one grown child, his son Spencer who has been a long-time LCC athletics intern learning all aspects of the NWAC. Spencer currently works for Columbia Basin College as assistant athletic director. Kirc and his partner Dr. Mary Ludwiczak live in Longview. She has two adult children Trevor Hanich and Greta Hanich. Kirc and Mary also have two grandchildren, Stella (2) and Shay (3 months).
