AUBURN, Wa. — Lower Columbia defeated Green River 1-0 on Wednesday. LCC withstood five Green River attacking actions from 83:56 to 88:29 without conceding.
The Red Devils struck first at 5:34, when
Addison Hartley scored off an assist from
Ada Labowitz to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Hartley forced a save in the 14th minute, and
Maylee Reynolds followed with two saved shots as LCC continued to put attempts on frame. Green River answered with pressure of its own, but
Leeann Williams made five first-half saves, including stops on two headers and chances in the 38th and 45th minutes.
Marseille Edwards added a saved shot in the 42nd minute, and the Red Devils took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
LCC played Green River to a scoreless second half and closed out a 1-0 win, pairing sustained pressure with late defensive work. LCC opened the half with corner kicks from
Sam Roundtree and
Raelie Guizzotti, then generated five shots from the 56th through 65th minutes, including saves on attempts by Roundtree,
Delanie Zueger and Reynolds. LCC totaled 12 shots on goal in the match, exceeding its season average of 10.38.
Leeann Williams answered Green River's best responses with a save in the 60th minute and two more during a late push after the 83rd-minute corner. The Red Devils continued to press in the final minutes, with Labowitz, Hartley and Reynolds each putting attempts on frame or forcing saves, and Reynolds' header at 89:53 led to one final corner before the match ended.
Hartley scored and finished with four shots, putting three on goal. Hartley also recorded a 50th career shot. Reynolds led LCC with five shots, including four on goal. Labowitz recorded an assist and added three shots, two on frame.
Leeann Williams made eight saves over 90 minutes and did not allow a goal. LCC recorded eight saves in the match, surpassing its season average of 4.15, and has totaled 10 shutouts this season, including Wednesday's.
Up next, the Red Devils travel to Tukwila, Washington, to face Highline Community College on Wednesday, Oct. 21. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. at Starfire Field.
