SEATAC, WA – The Lower Columbia College women's soccer team dropped a tough West Region road contest on Saturday, September 27, falling 4-0 to the Highline Thunderbirds at Valley Ridge Park.
The Red Devils battled to a scoreless draw for nearly the entire first half before a late offensive surge by Highline changed the match. The Thunderbirds broke the deadlock at the 40-minute mark and quickly added a second goal less than a minute later to take a 2-0 advantage into halftime.
Highline continued to apply pressure in the second half, tacking on two more goals to secure the victory.
The Red Devils' offense struggled to find its rhythm against a stout Highline defense, managing three shots on the day. Parker Tuttle and Raelie Guizzotti each registered a shot on goal for Lower Columbia.
A bright spot for the Devils' defense came in the 68th minute when defender Payton Bullmore made an impressive defensive save to clear a would-be goal off the line. Goalkeepers Cassandra Cleland and Haley Loll split time in goal, with Loll recording two saves in the second half.
The loss moves Lower Columbia's record to 3-4-2 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play. The team will look to bounce back in their next match on Wednesday, Oct. 1st vs Clark on the Devils home pitch. Match kicks off at 4:00 pm.
