PERFECTION!

PORTLAND, Ore. – History has been made at Delta Park. The Lower Columbia College Red Devils softball team etched their names into the annals of Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) lore, capping an extraordinary, unblemished season by clinching the 2025 NWAC Softball Championship title on Sunday, May 18. Their dominant 9-1 victory in five innings over Everett Community College in the championship game sealed a perfect 48-0 record, marking the first-ever undefeated season in NWAC softball history.

This championship is the program's 11th overall, a testament to its storied success, but it's the first since 2008 and a landmark first for Head Coach Traci Fuller. The Red Devils didn't just win; they dominated, going a flawless 5-0 through the championship tournament, with four of those victories coming via the run rule.

The championship clash against a formidable #6 seed Everett Trojans saw the Red Devils assert their authority from the outset. Tournament MVP Lexi Grumbois ignited the offense with a lead-off solo home run in the bottom of the first inning. Shaz Ancheta followed shortly with an RBI single, quickly putting LCC up 2-0.

While Everett's pitching held the potent Red Devils offense scoreless for the next two innings, the floodgates opened in the fourth. Hailey Brooks blasted a two-run homer, and the Red Devils, with two outs, orchestrated a seven-run inning. Emma Langsi delivered a crucial two-run double, and Grumbois cleared the bases with another double, effectively putting the game, and the championship, on ice with a 9-0 lead.

Everett managed to score a run in the top of the fifth on a solo home run from Kenidee Holden, but LCC's ace Zoey Hughes, who was stellar in the circle, shut the door, striking out the final batter to secure the historic 9-1 win and the coveted title. Hughes' performance, along with the offensive firepower, was a recurring theme throughout the tournament.
The Red Devils' path to perfection in the championship tournament included: Joining Grumbois on the All-Tournament Team from Lower Columbia were Allison Baumgart, Hailey Brooks, Ava Eib, and Zoey Hughes, highlighting the depth of talent on this exceptional squad.
The 2025 Lower Columbia Red Devils softball team has not just won a championship; they have set a new standard of excellence. Their 48-0 record, culminating in an NWAC title, will be celebrated as arguably the greatest single-season performance in conference history, a truly unforgettable run by a team that simply refused to lose.
