The Lower Columbia Red Devils continued their strong run in conference play with a dominant 64-48 victory over the Green River Gators at Myklebust Gymnasium. The Red Devils controlled the game from the opening quarter, building an early lead and never looking back.
Lower Columbia set the tone in the first period, jumping out to a 19-7 lead thanks to efficient scoring and defensive pressure. While Green River managed to cut into the deficit with a 13-point second quarter, the Red Devils answered back in the second half with another 19-point third quarter, extending their advantage to seal the game.
Leading the charge for Lower Columbia was
Karlee VonMoos, who delivered a commanding performance with 21 points and 18 rebounds. Her twelvth Double-Double of the season. VonMoos was dominant in the paint, shooting 10-of-21 from the field and adding two blocks and a steal. Her ability to control the glass proved crucial in the Red Devils' +16 rebounding advantage.
Reigha Niemeyer added a well-rounded effort with 13 points, five rebounds, and five assists while also tallying three steals on the defensive end.
Lauren Katyryniuk provided key contributions as well, scoring 11 points while hitting two three-pointers and grabbing four rebounds.
Defensively, the Red Devils were relentless, racking up 12 steals and forcing 18 turnovers from Green River. Their aggressive play helped keep the Gators to just 32.3% shooting from the field and a dismal 18.2% from beyond the arc.
For Green River, Jirah Villanueva led the way with 13 points, five rebounds, and one steal. She was the most consistent offensive player for the Gators, hitting five of her 14 shots and contributing in multiple areas. However, the lack of offensive rhythm and costly turnovers hindered Green River's ability to keep pace with the Red Devils.
With this victory, Lower Columbia improves to 7-1 in conference play and 13-9 overall, strengthening their position near the top of the standings. Meanwhile, Green River falls to 6-2 in conference play and 12-10 overall.
The Red Devils will look to build on this performance as they continue their push toward postseason contention.
The Devils will be back on the court Wednesday, Feb. 12 vs the Tacoma Titans. Game is set for 5:30 pm at Tacoma Community College.
