PORT ANGELES, WA – The Lower Columbia College Red Devils women's basketball team faced a challenging weekend at the Pirate Classic hosted by Peninsula College. After opening the tournament with a convincing victory, the Red Devils dropped two tightly contested games to close out the weekend with a 1-2 record at the event.
Lower Columbia now stands at 4-3 on the season.
Game 1: Lower Columbia 79, Bellevue 70
The Red Devils opened the tournament on Friday, December 5, with a strong offensive showing against Bellevue. LCC established control early, taking a 23-19 lead after the first quarter and maintaining the pressure to secure a nine-point victory.
The Red Devils utilized a balanced attack, dominating the paint with 28 points inside and capitalizing on Bellevue mistakes with 20 points off turnovers.

On Saturday, December 6, the Red Devils faced the host team, Peninsula, in a defensive battle. Despite a heroic individual performance from Angelica Askey, LCC struggled to find a secondary scoring rhythm, shooting just 32.4% from the field as a team.
The game was tight throughout, with LCC holding a slim lead at halftime. However, Peninsula managed to pull away in the second half, outscoring the Red Devils 18-14 in the pivotal third quarter.

In the Sunday finale on December 7, the Red Devils engaged in a high-scoring shootout with Chemeketa. The game featured 2 ties and 3 lead changes, but a massive 29-point third quarter by Chemeketa proved too difficult to overcome.
LCC fought hard in the fourth quarter, outscoring Chemeketa 22-16, but fell just short at the final buzzer. The game was physically demanding, with the Red Devils attempting 36 free throws.
