(Vancouver, WA) – It was an afternoon to remember for LCC soccer player
Alexia Valdez.
The sophomore transfer from Clark College haunted her former team with three goals as Lower Columbia shutout Clark 4-0 on Wednesday September 4
th.
Valdez asked for, and was granted, a transfer to LCC for this season. Last year she had three goals for the Penguins. She matched that total in one game against her former team.
"It was so sweet", said the sophomore from Clinton, Utah. "I'm been dreaming about this game since the schedule came out two months ago. It was really a good day for me, perfect."
Valdez opened the scoring on a penalty kick at 30' in the first half. The game remained tight until the Devils broke through with three goals in the span of four minutes. Valdez made it 2-0 on an unassisted goal at 74".
A minute later
Rhyli Grim cashed in on a
Avery Kimball assist. Valdez then took a Grim pass to collect the hat trick at 76'.
"I think we finally figured it out", said Valdez. "We started to play like ourselves and slowed down the game and played the way we wanted to."
Jade Goulding had a clean sheet in goal for LCC. The sophomore keeper had six saves, all in the first half.
The Devils outshot Clark 20-6 and had five corner kicks to just one for the Penguins.
LCC is 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in West League play.
The Devils head north to play another league game on Saturday September 7
th against South Puget Sound. The match begins at 12 pm at the RAC Complex in Lacey.
