NWAC Time After Split At SWOC

It was a regular season-ending battle in Coos Bay on Friday, with hometown #3 ranked Southwestern Oregon taking the opener 3-2 over the #4 ranked Red Devils, then LCC bouncing back to grab the night cap 10-0 in five innings.

LCC finished 38-11 overall and 22-6 in South Region play, good for a tie for second place with the Lakers, two games behind Mt. Hood.

Lower Columbia advances to the 16-team NWAC Championships as the #4 seed and will open up on Thursday at 1:00 PM vs #13 seed Douglas. The double-elimination tournament, played at Delta Park in Portland, will crown a champion on Sunday, May 19.

Friday Recap:
Game 1 – SWOC 3, Lower Columbia 2: The Lakers' Taylor Brewer and LCC's Teeghan Reams locked up in an outstanding pitching matchup. Reams allowed just two earned runs and all the SWOC runs scored in the first inning without hitting the ball out of the infield. After that Reams was magnificent, shutting out SWOC the rest of the way, allowing just four hits and striking out seven.

Reams' triple leading off the fifth inning got the Red Devil offense started. Brooklyn Loose followed with an RBI double and later scored on a Lexi Grumbois RBI single.

Down 3-2 in the seventh, Maliyah Twitty tripled off the top of the centerfield fence with two outs, missing a game-tying home run by inches. But she was stranded 60-feet away and SWOC hung on for the game one win.

Sawyer Stenson added a double and single to the Red Devil seven-hit attack.

Game 2 – Lower Columbia 10, SWOC 0 (5 innings): Sadie Knutson was in command all the way in the circle, shutting out the Lakers on three hits, four Ks and no walks.

The potent Devil offense put up two runs in both the 2nd and 3rd innings, then three runs each in the 4th and 5th to slam the door.

Bella Aspaas and Kaydence Mackin both lined two-run doubles and each had three RBI in the game.

Ella Dillon drove in a run with a ground rule double, while Allison Baumgart had a pair of hits and an RBI. Grumbois also plated a run and Leanna Russell added a double to the Devils ten-hit day.
