Powerful Devils Tied for First

(Kelso, WA) – The Lower Columbia College softball team put on another long ball show in a double header sweep over Centralia on Saturday April 13th.  LCC hit five homers in the two games and continued an offensive attack that has then leading the NWAC in runs, hits, doubles, RBI's, extra base hits and total bases.

And, the pitching has been good also.

Game One – Lower Columbia 9 Centralia 5

After the Blazers scored two runs in the top of the first, the Devils countered with three runs in the bottom of the frame. Sawyer Stenson drove in a run with a double. Leanna Russell added a run scoring double of her own.  Brooklyn Loose then singled home a run to give LCC a lead they would not give up.

Stenson's 4th inning single drove in two more. LCC put the game away with four in the 6th led by Joelie Eder's clutch two run double.  Stenson then hit her 15th homer of the season, a two run shot. Stenson is just one home run behind North Idaho's Katie Hobson in the home run chase.

Stenson was 3 for 5 with five RBI's.  Lexi Grumbois was 2 for 4.  Eder had two RBI's.

LCC starter Teeghan Reams got the victory, allowing just three hits and three earned runs in 4 1/3 innings.  Alli Heater allowed goose eggs in 2 2/3 innings of relief.

Game Two – Lower Columbia 19 Centralia 2

Although this game will be remembered for the offensive fireworks (19 runs on 18 hits) it was the pitching that was again very good.  Starter Sadie Knutson went four innings allowing four hits and two runs with four strikeouts.  Heater closed it out with a scoreless 5th and final frame.

The game lasted just 4 ½ innings because the Devil bats were on fire.  There were three, three-run homers by Karlee VonMoos, Allison Baumgart and Kaydence Mackin

There were offensive stars up and down the Devil lineup.  Grumbois was 4 for 4 with three doubles and two RBI's.  VonMoos was 2 for 3 including the three-run shot.  Russell was 2 for 2 with two runs and two RBI's.  Eder was 2 for 2 with three runs scored.  Baumgart was 2 for 2 with five RBI's, three coming off her homer.  Mackin was 2 for 4 with two runs and the three RBI's from her longball.

The only starter without a hit was the hottest hitter on the planet, Stenson.  Ella Dillon, Alexis Keaveny and Katelyn Swanson each had a base hit.

After SWOC and Mt. Hood split a double header, LCC is now 17-3 in the ultra-tough South Region, tied for first with Mt. Hood.

LCC steps away from division play for the NWAC Cross Over event in Yakima. The Devils will play Walla Walla on Friday at 2 pm to make up one of two games that were postponed earlier in the season.  Then the tourney happens Saturday and Sunday April 20 and 21st.
