(Gresham, OR) – The Lower Columbia softball team came up with an important split in a key South Region doubleheader on Saturday March 30
th.
The Devils were so close to a sweep against the top ranked Saints.
Lower Columbia won the first game 11-7 riding a six run outburst in the first inning. With three outs to go and leading 9-4 in the second game, Hood scored five in the bottom of the 7
th to tie it and won in the 8
th on a walk off homer.
Game One – Lower Columbia 11 Mt. Hood 7
LCC came out blazing in the first inning. LCC scored six runs in the top of the 6
th highlighted by a
Teeghan Reams grand slam home run. A bases loaded walk to
Brooklyn Loose and a bases loaded hit-by-pitch preceded Reams grand slam.
The Devils scored three more in the second inning on back-to-back homers from
Sawyer Stenson and
Raychel Squibb.
Reams came through again with a two-run shot in the top of the 5
th inning.
Reams was outstanding in the circle until the potent Saints struck with a grand slam in the 5
th. But Reams settled down after that and finished strong to get the complete game victory.
Game Two – Mt. Hood 10 Lower Columbia 9
LCC and Hood went toe-to-toe in the second game. Lower Columbia took a 9-4 lead after scoring in six of the first seven innings behind starter
Sadie Knutson. But Mt. Hood rallied in the bottom of the 7
th inning by scoring five runs to tie the game 9-9.
The Devils were turned away in the top of the 8
th. Hood then won it with an Ava Carroll walk-off homerun.
Knutson went the distance and was on the cusp of a huge win before the Saints pulled it out.
Stenson hit two homers and drove in three runs. Squibb went 2 for 5 with a homer and two RBI's.

Karlee VonMoos and
Maliyah Twitty had two hits each.
The highly competitive South Region has three teams with just two losses. Southwestern Oregon is 10-2 and LCC and Mt. Hood are 8-2.
The Devils have a huge home doubleheader with first place SWOC on Wednesday April 3
rd. The twin bill gets underway at 3 pm at Heerensperger Field at Tam O'Shanter Park in Kelso.
