(Tacoma, WA) – The trophy is coming back home.
For the fourth time in six years, the Lower Columbia women's basketball team has won the West Region championship. The Devils defeated Green River 69-57 on Wednesday February 28
th at Tacoma Community College.
Kayla Kasubuchi had 19 points, four rebounds and four assists to lead the Devil effort.
Lower Columbia was cruising right along with a 22 point lead early in the third quarter before the Gators made it interesting. A furious Gator rally got the game within two points with eight minutes left, but
Reigha Niemeyer hit a big three-pointer and Kasubuchi hit a bucket and two free throws to get the Devils back on track. LCC outscored the Gators 22-17 in the fourth quarter and won by 12 points.
League MVP candidate
Bailee Larson had 16 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals in the division-clinching victory.
Niemeyer provided 12 points, five boards, two assists and two steals.
Karlee VonMoos was big on the glass with 13 rebounds to go along with eight points.
The Devils will open the NWAC Championships on Friday March 8
th against the Bellevue Bulldogs. LCC defeated Bellevue 73-41 and 90-72 earlier in the season.
The game will tip off at 8 pm at the Columbia Basin Gym in Pasco.
