(Longview, WA) – The Lower Columbia baseball team got the season off to a flying start with a 12-2 (8) victory over the Chemeketa Storm on Tuesday February 20
th at Story Field.
Leadoff man
Langan Naylor sparked the season by going 3 for 4 with three steals and two RBI's.
Garrett Cooper also had a good collegiate debut by hitting two doubles and driving in four runs.
The Devils had 14 hits in the game. The tilt was shortened to 7 1/3 innings when the Devils scored five in the bottom of the 8
th to trigger the 10-run rule.
Sophomore
Wren Cecil had a great game in the ninth spot in the batting order. Cecil went 3 for 5 with two RBI's.
Cayden Wotipka was 2 for 3 with and RBI and two walks.
LCC pitching was solid. Starter
Owen Luchies retired the first six batters he faced until a hit-by-pitch to start the third. The Storm got their first run on a Luchies balk.
Chayse Oxborrow struck out three batters in two innings of hitless relief.
Hunter Grasser gave up a run and two hits in his two solid innings.
Josh Mejia was electric in his one inning striking out the side in the 8
th.
The Devils will be busy during a six game homestand this weekend.
Lane comes to Story Field on Friday February 23
rd for a 2 pm doubleheader.
Bellevue comes to Longview for a four-game weekend set. The Devils and Bulldogs play two games on Saturday February 24
th beginning at 2 pm.
The series concludes with a 12 noon doubleheader on Sunday February 25
th.
