Gators Rally To Bite Devils

(Longview, WA) – It was a rough second half for the Devils as Green River rallied from 11 points down at the half to stun Lower Columbia 78-73 on Wednesday January 31st at Myklebust Gym.
 
With its first league loss, the LCC team is now tied for first with Green River with both teams at 5-1.
 
It was a hackfest as 58 total fouls were called in the game.  The Gators had three players foul out and LCC had two players disqualified.
 
The Devils were strong in the first half as they took a 43-32 lead into the locker room.  But the Gators quickly erased the LCC advantage and had their way in the final two quarters.
 
Despite the momentum swing, LCC had a chance to win late in the game. Kayla Kasubuchi hit a big three-pointer to give the Devils a 71-70 lead with 1:47 left.  But the Gators quickly countered with a lay-up and then hit some clutch free throws to gain the win.
 
The Gators took advantage of extra opportunities when they retrieved 18 board off the offensive glass.  The Green River pressure also led to 23 LCC turnovers.
 
Reigha Niemeyer led LCC with 22 points before she fouled out.
 
Karlee VonMoos had 13 points and 11 rebounds.  Bailee Larson had 12 points before she fouled out.  Kasubuchi ended up with 10 points.
 
Mary Tessa Pan paced the Gators with 22 ponts.
 
Lower Columbia and Green River are now tied at the top of the West Region with 5-1 records.
 
The Devils are off Saturday and return to the home court Wednesday February 7th against Tacoma. Game time is 5:30 pm.
