Red Devils Fall Short in Snow College Series

(Ephraim, UT) In a challenging two-game series the Snow College Badgers (NJCAA DIV. I), the Lower Columbia Red Devils battled hard but fell short in both matchups, showing moments of promise amid tough competition.

Game 1 Recap (November 29, 2024):

The Red Devils faced a tough opponent in Snow College, losing 73-55. Lower Columbia started the game with determination, keeping the score close in the early quarters. Reigha Niemeyer led the charge with 17 points and 8 rebounds, while Karlee VonMoos made her presence felt with a double-double, scoring 12 points and pulling down 9 rebounds. Despite their efforts, the Red Devils struggled with shooting consistency, hitting 33.9% of their field goals and 20% from three-point range.

Key moments came in the second quarter, where Snow College's offense pulled away. The Red Devils worked to close the gap but were unable to fully capitalize on their defensive stops and scoring opportunities. Transition points and turnovers proved costly, as Snow College converted them into scoring plays.

Game 2 Recap (November 30, 2024):

In the second matchup, the Red Devils showed resilience but faced a well-rounded Snow College team, falling 83-33. Lower Columbia found it difficult to find their rhythm offensively, finishing with a 22.4% shooting rate. Maris Baklund led the team with 9 points, and Karlee VonMoos continued to fight hard under the basket, collecting 11 rebounds.

While the Red Devils brought energy, especially in the second and third quarters, turnovers hindered their momentum, and Snow College took advantage with transition points. Lower Columbia's bench worked to make an impact, and players like Michaela Medico added grit on both ends of the floor. However, Snow College's ability to create scoring chances and capitalize on second-chance opportunities made it challenging for the Red Devils to close the gap.

Series Takeaway:

The Red Devils showed moments of promise in both games, with standout performances from Niemeyer and VonMoos. Despite the losses, Lower Columbia demonstrated effort and teamwork, gaining valuable experience against a strong opponent. The games highlighted areas for growth, such as improving shooting accuracy and limiting turnovers, as the team looks ahead to future contests with optimism and determination.

The Devils return to the familiar confines of Myklebust gym on Wednesday, December 4, vs the Clark Penguins. Tip is set for 5:30 pm.
