(Lakewood, WA) Lower Columbia split the day at Pierce Quad Invitation with a 3-1 win over Skagit Valley and a 2-3 loss to Bellevue on Thursday, September 7.
The Red Devils continued their strong pre-season schedule with a pair of matches in Lakewood, WA at the Pierce College Quad Invitational. First up for the devils was the Skagit Valley Cardinals.
In the first set it was all LCC, as the Devils came out swinging defeating Skagit 25-11. Lower Columbia errors hurt the Devils in the second set allowing the Cardinals to take the set two win 24-26.
LCC made a few adjustments and finished the match strong in 4 with 25-20 wins of set three and four.
Sophomore
Kate Johnson lead the Devils with 13 kills.
Kambree Baker was a beast up front with 7 kills and 7 blocks.
Paige Chinchen was all over the court with 6 kills, 5 aces, and 12 digs.
Kate Onespot-Danforth and
Kendal Collins added to the wall up front with 3 blocks each. Onespot-Danforth also had 24 assists.
Libero,
Madi Noel finished the match with 17 digs
Alex Tinsley added 13 assist and an ace serve.
The Devils had a short break before taking on one of the North Regions top teams the Bellevue Bulldogs.
Once again the Devils started of strong surprising the Bulldogs with just how tenacious they can be and taking the first set 25-19.
The Devils fought hard and made the Bulldogs earn every point but came up short in sets Two and Three, 21-25. But the Devils refused to go easy and took the fourth set 25-21 to force a fifth.
LCC battle but Bellevue jumped out to an early lead in the fifth and it was just to much of a deficit to overcome as the Bulldogs got the 10-15 fifth set win to take the match 2-3 over LCC.
Chinchen lead the Devils at the net with 15 kill. Paige also had 14 digs on the night.
Kate Johnson had 12 kills.
Kendal Collins put up 10 kills and 11 digs.
Onespot-Danforth had 25 assists, 4 aces, and 2 blocks.
Alex Tinsley put up 23 assists.
Once again
Madi Noel was phenomenal in the back court with 25 digs
Freshman
Cheyenne Wetlesen had 2 blocks
Next up for the Red Devils is a home match vs the Pacific University JV team on Tuesday, September 12, at 6:00 pm.
Then they will travel to Edmonds on Thursday, September 14 for a 6:00 pm match vs the Tritons and will finish off the week at the Bellevue crossover, September 15 and 16.
